Instant Pot Apple Chicken Sausage with Cabbage

 It would appear that I am currently on a chicken sausage kick, but as I’m sure you know – when something works and everyone in the family likes the same thing… you roll with it! I am definitely rolling with this new Apple Chicken Sausage with Cabbage recipe. Everyone in my family (yes, even the picky six year old and the sassy three year old) loved this meal, and I honestly cannot say I blame them.

This recipe incorporates the cabbage to satisfy the required veggie for the night, turmeric for all the health benefits, apple chicken sausage for your protein and coconut oil for your healthy fat. If you have read my other posts, you already know the best meal in my house is a quick meal. I never seem to have much time to spend in the kitchen so the fact that this meal takes less than 20 minutes from start to finish and I can get all 3 kids to eat it makes it a new favorite. Whether you’re trying to get your kids to eat a little healthier than the dino nuggets they live off of or if you already rock a super healthy lifestyle, this is the perfect meal.

Ingredients:

2 packages of your favorite apple chicken sausage (about 8 links)

1 large green cabbage

1 15 oz can diced tomatoes

3 tbsp coconut oil

2 tsp ground turmeric

1 tbsp onion powder

1 tsp garlic salt

1 tsp ground pepper

  First and foremost, set your instant pot to “saute”. While your Instant Pot is heating up, you can slice your chicken sausage. Once you are done with slicing, throw them straight in your Instant Pot and lightly brown.

 While browning your apple chicken sausage you can start chopping up your cabbage. Chop as big or small as you like but it will shrink quite a bit once cooked!

 Once your chicken sausage is lightly browned to your liking, turn off your Instant Pot and throw in all your chopped cabbage, coconut oil and seasonings.

 Finally, top it all with an entire can of diced tomatoes! No mixing required. Put the lid on, make sure it is set to “sealing” and set it for manual 1 minute. That’s it! There is nothing that tastes better than a meal that didn’t make me sweat to cook it! Go sit back and relax for a few. Once the timer is done let your Instant Pot natural release for 5 minutes before doing a quick release.

 

Open and done! Go ahead and slightly mix your Apple Chicken Sausage with Cabbage while serving and you are good to go. I hope you love it as much as our family did. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 2 packages Apple Chicken Sausage
  • 1 large cabbage
  • 1 can diced tomatoes 15 oz
  • 3 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 tsp ground pepper

Instructions

  1. Set Instant Pot to saute

  2. Slice Apple Chicken Sausage to desired thickness.

  3. Add chicken sausage to Instant Pot and lightly brown. Once browned, turn Instant Pot off.

  4. Chop up cabbage, add to Instant pot.

  5. Add all spices and coconut oil. Top with entire can of tomatoes.

  6. Set Instant pot to "manual" 1 minute. Allow to NPR for 5 minutes then QPR.

  7. Lightly stir and serve.

      We use precooked apple chicken sausage (I get mine from Aldi but you can get it anywhere!).
