I’m so excited to have found this amazing gem in Atlanta!  The Starlight Six Drive-In is absolutely some of the best family friendly fun that we’ve come across in Georgia. Starlight opened in 1949 and has a fantastically vintage feel to it that makes it an amazing experience, you suddenly feel as if you’ve been transported to the 1950’s (you know, but with iPhones)!  They have SIX screens and they’re all double features so you have a chance to see everything you want if you go often enough, and they’re open every night of the year except for Christmas Eve and New Years Eve, so you can go anytime!

Taking a chatterbox 7 year old and a loud and squirmy 2 year old to the movies is basically my idea of torture, so the drive in is absolutely perfect!  We went September 27th to the double feature of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 and The Butler.  The tickets are insanely cheap!  Adults are $7, kids 3-9 are $1, and kids 2 and under are free which means that we got to go to the movies for $8 total!  They have a great snackbar with reasonably priced snacks but you’re also allowed to bring your own food in!  That’s right… no smuggling M&M’s in your purse there, they’re actually ok with it!

On Friday and Saturday nights they open the gates 2 hours early to allow for everyone to get in and settled.  I highly recommend getting there as early as possible, the line gets a bit long sometimes.  We arrived about an hour early, got an amazing parking space, pulled out the cooler, and had a picnic.  It gave the kids a chance to run around and burn off their energy, we weren’t rushing to get there in time, and there’s such a great community feel that everybody grills (before the movie starts, once it’s showtime all grills have to be away), and all the kids play together.

I couldn’t recommend Starlight Six any more, from my experience, there’s nothing that needs to be improved upon.  Great prices, friendly staff, perfect movie selection, an ATM on site, and a real sense of community there.  It’s the perfect way to spend an evening out, great for date nights but perfect for taking the kids out.  Especially since they’ll be so sleepy when they get home that they’ll go right to bed!
